Synopsis:
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

I loved this book. It made me cry, it made me mad, it made me laugh. Just a roller coaster of emotions. I can't believe I hadn't read this book sooner. Starr is such a strong girl, so brave...and she doesn't even know it. This is such a powerful read and it just pulls you in. I didn't want to put it down but the way mom life works...I had to a few times but I am so glad I got to read this book.
